Name: Captain Edward Black
Age: 81
Species: Werebear
Class: Fighter
Alignment: Lawful Evil
Occupation: Member of the Pirate Court
Faction: Eastern Pirates
Appearance:
Personality:
Once one of the cruelest pirates to sail the sea of Eld, Edward Black has mellowed out a lot in his later years. He no longer resorts to violence as soon as there is a conflict, but he doesn't shy away from a fight should it come to that. He is harsh and strict, and has no patience for nonsense. If you speak with him, you have to get directly to the point, or he will get angry.
Although many people join the Eastern Pirates for their own protection, Captain Black is one of the few who actually cares about the group as one should. He hates the selfishness of the pirates these days, and can often be seen loudly complaining to his fellow Court members how the Eastern Pirates have lost its sense of loyalty, considering most pirates in the Eastern Pirates are only loyal to two people: themselves and whoever sits on the throne.
And though he used to be one of the cruelest out there, he now abhors the overly violent people sailing the sea today, loudly objecting to one of his fellow Court members' vote to put Captain Saak on the throne, instead giving his vote to Queen Syndel.
Due to his very eventful life, Black has entered retirement with a lot of wisdom, which he is happy to share with any pirate brave enough to ask for it.
History:
Edward Black was born to Henry and Elizabeth Black eighty-one years ago. His father was a pirate, a good one with a nose for treasure and a sword hand that was rivaled by few humans. His father started training him in the use of a blade from an early age, and took him onto his ship for the first time when Edward was eight. He loved it, the pirate life.
Edward grew up cold and ruthless, taking over his father's ship, the Elizabeth, when his father was killed by the authorities. He plagued the sea for a long time, never leaving any survivors when he attacked ships. He even plundered Panthros Harbor once, taking them completely by surprise with his cannon fire and leaving with a substantial amount of loot before the Elves had reacted properly.
With a bounty of fifty Gold on his head, Edward continued plaguing the sea, plundering however he wished, and gaining the respect of his fellow pirates, even some ships that were crewed by only demons claimed that he was one hell of a pirate, which was saying a lot.
At age thirty, Edward was attacked and bitten by a Werebear, which spread the virus to his body. The increased strength and abilities he gained from this change only served to help him in his pirating ways, once he had gotten over his instincts and learned to control himself.
When he reached the age of sixty, Edward Black decided to retire. He had grown weary of violence, and had stopped resorting to it whenever he felt like it, which the crew of the Elizabeth noticed. He had so far lost his right hand and left leg in battle, and was tired. His first mate was an Elf, who looked no older than thirty, even though he was well over two hundred years old, Ethil Silvertongue. Edward gave the Elizabeth to Ethil, and retired in Pirate Haven, where he was immediately offered a spot in the Pirate Court.
Once a member of the Court, Edward got to work trying to rebuild the Eastern Pirates, wanting to make them into more than what they were. He didn't like how no one was loyal to one another, everyone only relying on themselves. It annoyed Edward. However, despite people listening to his words when he preached to whatever pirate would listen, his words didn't really stick with anyone, and therefore he could do nothing.
When Edward was seventy-two, a vote was called. The former King, Zanthos Tyde, had been challenged for the position of leader by his daughter, Syndel. Although the slaying of the King after a formal challenge merited the spot as Queen, she would still need the support of the Court to sit upon the throne. One member objected to this, claiming that Captain Saak of the Lady Mary's Revenge would be better suited for the position of leader, a notion that Edward loudly objected to.
Fortunately, Syndel was chosen, and Edward breathed a sigh of relief.
Now, however, Queen Syndel has been killed, and it is time for another vote. The Pirate Court, considering a challenge was never issued, now needs to take a look at all the prospective Kings and Queens to decide on who might be best suited for the position, and Edward, weary, still prays that someone worthy will step forth and be placed on the throne, someone who can unite the Eastern Pirates again.
