Name: Imperius the Mentor
Age: Unknown (Well over 13,000)
Species: Fallen Guardian Angel
Class: Paladin (serving Wee Jas)
Alignment Chaotic Good
Occupation: Crusader
Appearance:
Imperius' wings changed after his Fall. They are still ethereal, but they are now orange, and they are constantly burning, making him look incredibly intimidating, like a true Tro-ja, an Avenging Angel.
Personality:
Imperius is Samael the Exile's older brother. Samael is basically Imperius Mk. II. Imperius is a very compassionate being, valuing all forms of life, provided that they are not evil. He is a benevolent and fair Guardian Angel, and very wise and helpful. If one just asks, he will gladly give advice, no matter who it is, be they Angel or mortal.
After his unfortunate Fall, however, some of Imperius' views have been slightly warped. Whereas he once believed in the cause of vanquishing the evil from the Realm of Eld, he now believes that not only should the evil ones be slain, but so should those with potential for evil. If he sees someone who even looks at something funny, he won't hesitate to cut that person down.
He has become quick to resort to anger, an emotion that is very foreign to him, which he doesn't understand at all. Therefore, he experiences moments of great confusion, sometimes in the middle of a battle if he is angered. But although he has gained all these undesirable traits, he still retains his sense of honor and his kindness to those he believe to be truly good.
Imperius is a great General and strategist, one of the best, able to come up with strategies in a heartbeat, and give passionate speeches to those under his command, able to raise morale with only a few words.
History:
Imperius is of the first generation of Guardian Angels, along with the Guardian Angel Tyrael, who guards the entrance to Arathros in the temple of Boccob, and five others. He was the epitome of good during his and his siblings' time as the only Guardian Angels, and as he was the strongest, he was made their unofficial leader. All the other Guardian Angels came to him for advice and assistance if they ever needed it.
When the second generation of Guardian Angels was created, Imperius immediately noticed one of them standing out, just as he had once done when he was first created. Samael the Guardian Angel was the strongest of his generation, and Imperius took the Guardian Angel as a pupil, of sorts. While he didn't teach him any fighting styles or strategies or anything of the sort, he did teach Samael to have wisdom, to love, to cherish, to protect, molding him into a very capable General.
During his many thousands of years as a Guardian Angel, Imperius, a General of the army of Arathros, fought in many wars alongside Samael as demons invaded Arathros many, many times. Each time, the Angels were able to beat them back into the Hells they came from, but pursued them no further, much to Imperius' confusion.
Imperius was oftentimes at odds with the Three Siblings, the leaders of Arathros, due to their reluctance to allow Imperius to lead his forces into the Nine Hells to get rid of their enemies once and for all. They never explained why he wasn't allowed, and Imperius was ashamed to admit that he felt a great frustration because of it.
A thousand years ago, when Desdemona, a very trusted and kind Angel, showed her true colors, and the army that she had been building was discovered, another war was sparked, in which Imperius lost many of his comrades, including two first generation Guardian Angels, and one second generation Guardian Angel.
Not long after, Imperius, Samael, first generation Guardian Angel Auriel, and second generation Guardian Angel Michael were those chosen to travel to the Realm of Eld, where they tracked down Desdemona and her lover, capturing them very close, dangerously close, to Dagalûr the Dark One's Dark Tower. In a moment of weakness that has been hidden from the rest of the Angels, even to this day, Auriel and Imperius succumbed to their anger over the loss of their comrades, and they wanted Desdemona to suffer as they had.
They burned Desdemona's lover at the stake, forcing her to watch it, before bringing her back to Arathros. Imperius was one of those who voted against having Desdemona executed for her crimes. He felt that this was too light a punishment, and so suggested that she be imprisoned for an eternity.
Not long after this, Samael gained his title of 'the Exile,' by defying Arathros' orders, and heading into the Realm of Eld to vanquish the evil that resided in that realm. Imperius felt a bit jealous that his friend had found the courage to do that which Imperius had struggled for thousands of years to do.
Finally, however, a year ago, Imperius did what had been considered impossible. He, the strongest of the first generation Guardian Angels, the wisest, the bravest, the Mentor, also left Arathros to join Samael in his crusade. However, after a year in Eld, Imperius felt that Samael was going about things the wrong way. He felt that it would be best to cut off the head of the snake immediately.
Therefore, he ventured into the Lolth Realm to cleanse it, completely disregarding the many times the Three Siblings had strictly forbidden him from doing so.
Imperius changed in the Lolth Realm.
He slew as many demons as he could, but for each life he took, he noticed how his thoughts turned darker and darker, and it wasn't until he reached the throne of the fearsome demon Legion that he truly felt it. Their battle was a great one, lasting for almost an hour, before Legion managed to gain the upper hand.
Then, something happened. Legion grabbed Imperius, and made to kill him, but the contact, coupled with the demonic energy released during their fight, and the ambient taint that had been affecting Imperius ever since he entered the realm, completely corrupted Imperius' core. His ethereal wings were set ablaze, and Imperius managed to take advantage of Legions shock, cutting his face with his sword, making him drop the now Fallen Guardian Angel, who quickly retreated back to the Realm of Eld.
His thoughts now darkened, Imperius set out into the Realm of Eld once more to continue his crusade, only this time, he was a lot more brutal, hellbent on slaying anyone who was evil, anyone who had at one point been evil, and anyone with the potential of being evil, even if there is a chance that they may never fulfill that potential.
